Kangana Ranaut responded to Smriti Irani’s opposition to mandated period leave, saying that menstruation is not a handicap.

Smriti Irani said on Wednesday that menstruation is not a “disability” and that a program for “paid leave” for women is unnecessary. Kangana Ranaut took to Instagram Stories on Thursday to express her thoughts on the remark made by the union’s women and child development (WCD) minister. The actor, who was most recently featured in the patriotic film Tejas, stated that “women have always worked and nothing has ever stood in the way of their commitment to their families, community, or nation.”

Working women are myths, according to Kangana.

Kangana said, “Working women are a myth; there has never been a non-working woman in human history,” sharing an image of a recent Hindustan Times article titled, “Menstruation not handicap, no need for “paid leave” policy: Minister Smriti Irani.” Women have always worked, and nothing has stopped them from being devoted to their families, communities, and country—from farming to housework to raising children. Women don’t require paid time off for menstruation unless they have a specific medical issue. Please remember that menstruation is a natural part of life, not a sickness or disability.

Smriti Irani’s says

Smriti Irani had stated, “As a menstruating woman, menstruation and the menstrual cycle is not a handicap, it’s a natural part of women’s life journey,” in response to a question in the Rajya Sabha.Issues where women are denied equal opportunity should not be brought up simply because someone who does not menstruate has a certain opinion on the period.”

Kangana has previously used social media to express her opinions on current events. The actor frequently posts her opinions on Instagram or X, whether it be on the Himachal Pradesh floods or the box office receipts of movies. Kangana responded to the hype around India’s name change in September.

The star took to X and published a piece from the Hindustan Times two years ago regarding her call for the country to be renamed from India. She explained the significance of the term “Bharat” in her tweet. She tweeted, “And some call it black magic…” with an image of the 2021 story. Honey, it’s only grey matter. To all of you, congratulations! Liberated from a slave’s name… Salute to India.”
