Raja Hindustani, starring Karisma Kapoor and Aamir Khan, is one of the classic romance Hindi movies from the 1990s. Because Kapoor and Khan had the longest kissing sequence in 1996, Dharmesh Darshan’s film became the talk of the town. Their on-screen connection was the driving force behind Raja Hindustani’s success. Darshan discussed the same things and disclosed some little-known details about the scenario in a recent interview.
Dharmesh Darshan disclosed to Lehren Retro that Karisma Kapoor filmed the sequence in front of her mother Babita. The director praised Kapoor’s commitment, stating that she was uneasy during the kissing sequence because she was still pretty young. Babita Kapoor was the one who brought her daughter along on the set to help with the filming of the sequence.
It took three days for Karisma Kapoor and Aamir Khan to film their kissing scene.
It was also claimed at the time that 47 takes were needed to complete the famous moment. Darshan went on to say that the kiss was originally going to be featured on the movie poster in order to cause a stir, but they changed their minds. Karisma Kapoor had previously spoken candidly about the same subject and revealed that she and Aamir Khan were hoping the moment will conclude soon. For those who don’t know, Ooty was the location of the scene.
The original candidate for Karisma Kapoor’s role was Juhi Chawla.
Dharmesh Darshan disclosed in the same interview that Juhi Chawla was first considered for the female lead role. But he didn’t know the script and didn’t want todo a romantic film. Darshan claimed that he tried to convince Chawla by giving the example of Madhuri Dixit’s Hum Aapke Hain Koun!. Chawla did not agree and was irked after Darshan compared her to Madhuri Dixit.
The makers also reached out to Pooja Bhatt and Aishwarya Rai for the role, however, they said no to the script.
