Leading Arab Israeli actress Maisa Abdel Hadi was detained because it was allegedly suspected that her social media post about the Israel-Hamas conflict was “inciting terrorism.” The actress was taken into custody on Monday and is expected to stay there until Thursday.

On October 7, Hadi is said to have posted a picture of a bulldozer smashing over the border separating Israel and the Gaza Strip during a Hamas raid. Israel asserts that around 1,400 persons lost their lives as a result of this attack. Conversely, the Gaza-based Hamas government claims that Israel’s counterattacks have claimed the lives of almost 5,000 civilians.

The actress, who starred in a number of TV shows, movies, and plays, said in a caption, “Let’s go Berlin-style,” alluding to the collapse of the Berlin Wall, which divided Germany until 1989.

Her lawyer, Jaafar Farah, who also serves as the director of the human rights organization Mousawat, told AFP in an interview that “she is accused of supporting terrorism.”

Israel has reaffirmed its determination to destroy Hamas and turned down UN requests for a cease-fire. Israel has described the Gaza battle as a “war of the free world,” in addition to being its own. During a press briefing, IDF Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi stated that his forces are ready for any possible invasion. If the escalating confrontation between Israel and Gaza cannot be handled, rumors indicate that the Biden administration is preparing for a mass evacuation of thousands of American residents from the Middle East.
