Prior to the 18th Heads of State and Government Summit of the G20 nations slated for September 9 and 10, security has been stepped up in the nation’s capital. The Delhi Police has created a thorough security plan that takes into account a number of factors, including airport security, venue deployment, and anti-terrorist procedures.
For the event, more over half of the Delhi Police will be on duty, along with National Security Guard (NSG) and CAPF personnel. The Indian military will also offer support in the form of specialized measures.
Several important world figures, including US President Joe Biden, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman of Saudi Arabia, and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, among others, will attend the event.
Top developments on India’s preparation for the G20 Summit are provided below :
- In order to coordinate several parts of the arrangements with the relevant security authorities, the Indian Air Force (IAF) has established a dedicated operations direction center. In addition to these advanced measures, it is also deploying surface-to-air missiles, radars, anti-drone systems, and front-line fighter jets to safeguard the skies over Delhi and the nearby areas.
- In preparation for the G20 Summit, the Delhi Police trainee commandos practiced helicopter slithering on Friday, according to officials.
- Since the Delhi Police is in charge of providing the majority of the security, the force would prepare for the deployment of officers with the rank of special commissioner of police as the commander and deputy commissioner of police-level officials as the zonal commander at the venue.
- To create a uniform appearance, special civilian clothing has been created for each and every jawan who will be deployed for the meeting.
- Police will be more vigilant at the borders of the national capital to thwart any unauthorized entry, and non-essential goods vehicles won’t be permitted inside the city.
- Nearly 450 people have received training from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) to act as drivers and personal security guards for the Heads of State. For the left-hand drive bulletproof cars for the G20, 60 drivers received specialized training. A PSO with a high-tech weapon and a driver will be dressed in coat and slacks.
- The government has rented a total of 12 armored limousines to transport the leaders. The wives of the dignitaries will be protected by Sashastra Seema Bal commandos who have undergone rigorous training.
- According to an IAF official, anti-drone equipment would be deployed by both the military and paramilitary forces to counter aerial threats.
- A special security plan has been put in place at important hotels where the world leaders will stay. “A DCP-rank officer will act as camp commander at the hotels. At a press conference, senior Delhi Police official Madhup Tiwari stated that the remainder of Delhi will be on high alert.
