Shyam Lal College Celebrates Diamond Jubilee with Grand Sashtipoorthi and 61st Annual Day.

New Delhi, June 9, 2025 — Shyam Lal College, a premier constituent college of the University of Delhi, marked a historic milestone by celebrating 60 illustrious years of academic excellence with a grand Sashtipoorthi celebration combined with its 61st Annual Day and Prize Distribution Function. The event, held with great grandeur on the college campus, was a tribute to its legacy, accomplishments, and continued commitment to inclusive and quality education.

The college, accredited with an impressive A++ grade, has carved a niche for itself in East Delhi, especially for empowering women through education. The Sashtipoorthi celebration was graced by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Delhi, Smt. Rekha Gupta Ji, as the Chief Guest. Also present were Shri Manoj Kumar Tiwari Ji, Hon’ble Member of Parliament; Shri Jitendra Mahajan Ji, Hon’ble Member of the Legislative Assembly; and Prof. Balaram Pani, Dean of Colleges, University of Delhi, as the Guests of Honour. The event was presided over by Smt. Savita Gupta Ji, Hon’ble Chairperson of the Governing Body of Shyam Lal College.

In her presidential address, Smt. Savita Gupta Ji emphasized the pivotal role of Shyam Lal College as a nurturing ground that goes beyond academic instruction to build socially responsible citizens. She highlighted the college’s mission to make education accessible, particularly to young women, and praised the efforts of the faculty and staff in upholding this vision.

Hon’ble Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta Ji, an alumna of Delhi University, addressed the gathering with a deep sense of nostalgia and pride. Reflecting on her student days, she remarked,

“Today, Shyam Lal College completes 60 glorious years and stands as a symbol of progress and commitment. Over the past decade, the college has witnessed significant growth, thanks to the dedication of its stakeholders. It now ranks among the most prestigious colleges of Delhi University in East Delhi.”

Applauding the college’s journey, the Chief Minister urged students to contribute meaningfully to society and announced the government’s support in building a state-of-the-art auditorium in North East Delhi.

“This model auditorium will serve the academic and cultural aspirations of students in this region,” she stated.

As part of the celebration, the Hon’ble Chief Minister was given a grand ceremonial welcome by the Delhi Police and later planted a sapling near the Ganesh Temple on campus, symbolizing the growth and sustainability of Shyam Lal College.

Prof. Rabi Narayan Kar, Principal of Shyam Lal College, inaugurated the event with an inspiring welcome address and presentation of the Annual Report. He detailed the academic reforms, institutional developments, and achievements of students and faculty. Prof. Kar applauded the Hon’ble Chief Minister’s recent milestone of completing 100 days in office and emphasized the college’s ongoing commitment to holistic student development.

Adding to the celebratory spirit, Hon’ble MP Shri Manoj Kumar Tiwari Ji lauded the Chief Minister’s leadership and praised the evolution of Shyam Lal College. In a generous and commendable gesture, he pledged his support for constructing a state-of-the-art, fully air-conditioned auditorium with a capacity of 800 seats.

“This initiative will further boost the academic infrastructure of East Delhi,” he noted while congratulating all the college stakeholders.

The event concluded with the distribution of prizes and certificates to meritorious students by the Hon’ble Chief Minister, recognizing their academic and co-curricular excellence. The vibrant cultural performances and enthusiastic participation of students made the celebration even more memorable.

The Diamond Jubilee (Sashtipoorthi) celebration of Shyam Lal College not only marked a glorious past but also ushered in a vision for a dynamic and empowered future. The college continues its journey as a beacon of learning, leadership, and social responsibility.
