Telugu superstar Allu Arjun was arrested on Friday in connection with a stampede that occurred during the premiere of his film Pushpa 2: The Rule in Hyderabad. The incident, which took place on December 4, led to the tragic death of a 39-year-old woman and left her 13-year-old son injured.
The police have filed a case against the actor, his security team, and the theater management for their roles in the incident. According to authorities, the crowd chaos unfolded when Allu Arjun arrived at the theater without prior notification to the police or the public. This lack of communication reportedly caused a stampede, leading to the fatality.
A dramatic scene was witnessed on Friday when Allu Arjun was escorted by the police to the station under heavy security. The police have taken the actor into custody for questioning. The woman’s identity was confirmed as Revathi, aged 39, who succumbed to injuries from suffocation in the crowd. Her son, Sri Tej, was hospitalized but is reportedly recovering under medical supervision.
The police have invoked sections 105 and 118(1) of the Indian Penal Code against Allu Arjun, his security team, and the theater management for their negligence in handling the event. Authorities also stated that the theater did not take adequate measures for crowd control and failed to ensure public safety. The police also noted that the event was not announced beforehand, leading to a large, uncontrolled gathering at the venue.
The incident has sparked a wave of public concern, with many questioning the safety measures surrounding celebrity events. The tragic event has left fans devastated, and a thorough investigation is underway to determine accountability.
Allu Arjun, who expressed his sorrow over the incident, issued a public apology. He said, “We are truly sorry for what happened. We were not aware of the situation. It is a very unfortunate event.” He further announced a financial contribution of ₹25 lakh to the grieving family and committed to covering the medical expenses for the injured child.
This arrest and the subsequent investigation are expected to shine a spotlight on safety protocols during public events, particularly when large crowds are involved.
