At the Olympics in Paris, Sachin Tendulkar backed Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat, claiming he deserved the silver medal.
Sachin Tendulkar, a former Indian famous cricketer, has spoken out in support of female wrestler Vinesh Phogat. Vinesh was disqualified for being overweight after reaching the 50 kg finals at the Paris Olympics. Vinesh had won a silver medal for her country by reaching the final, but she wanted to win the gold medal. However, she was disqualified before to the match. Vinesh has filed a Sports Arbitration appeal against this ruling.
“Regulations require to be reviewed periodically.”
Sachin criticized Vinesh’s disqualification, claiming that the wrestler deserved the silver medal. Tendulkar stated that sports rules should be revised periodically. He wrote on X on Friday that every sport has regulations, and those rules must be considered in context; perhaps they should be revised from time to time. Vinesh Phogat qualified for the final in a fair manner. Her weight disqualification occurred prior to the final, and taking away her silver medal defies logic and game sense.
“We are awaiting the Sports Arbitration’s ruling.”
The Master Blaster stated that it is justified to disqualify a player for unethical behavior, however this did not happen in Vinesh’s case. He stated that it would be reasonable if an athlete was disqualified for ethical infractions such as the use of performance-enhancing drugs. In that circumstance, it would be appropriate not to receive a medal and finish last. Vinesh overcame her opponents to reach the top two. She fully deserves the silver medal. We are all waiting for the Sports Arbitration’s judgment. I hope and pray that Vinesh receives the accolades she deserves.
