In the 18th Lok Sabha, the opposition alliance has also put forth a candidate to serve as Speaker. K. Suresh, a Congress MP from Kerala, has been named the alliance’s nominee. However, it appears that the opposition is having problems following this ruling.
As an associate of the opposition alliance, Trinamool Congress (TMC) asserts that no party representative was contacted regarding K. Suresh’s name. When K. Suresh announced his intention to run for the Lok Sabha.
Upon presenting his nomination for Lok Sabha Speaker, K. Suresh did not have any Trinamool Congress leaders present to sign. TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee stated that he has not yet been contacted when asked about the party’s position on this matter. Banerjee went on to say that unfortunately, this is a biased choice. The TMC MP claims that none has heeded the party’s position on this matter, and Mamata Banerjee alone will make the final decision.
Soon after, Abhishek Banerjee and Rahul Gandhi were spotted talking within the Lok Sabha. Upon leaving the House, Rahul Gandhi faced questions about whether he and the TMC had come to a conclusion over the Speaker.
