When it came to describing revised targets, the strategy was first applied in international cricket in 1990. In 2001, the International Cricket Council (ICC) officially recognized it as the norm.

While the T20 World Cup is taking place in the US and the West Indies, some dreadful news came out from the cricket world. At the age of 84, English statistician Frank Duckworth, one of the developers of the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method, passed away. Duckworth reportedly died away on June 21.

The outcome of games affected by rain is estimated using the Duckworth-Lewis method, which was created by statistician Duckworth and his colleague Tony Lewis. In 1990, the method was used for the first time in international cricket, and the ICC approved it in 2001.

The method was renamed Duckworth-Lewis-Stern after Australian statistician Steven Stern made some changes and Duckworth and Lewis retired. In June 2010, Duckworth and Lewis received the title of Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE).

The DLS approach is based on an advanced statistical analysis that modifies the aim for the team batting second by accounting for a number of factors, such as fewer overs and wickets remaining.
