Rahul Gandhi’s sister, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, was also at the Rae Bareli Lok Sabha elections 2024 event.

On Monday, May 13, Rahul Gandhi, the Congress candidate from Rae Bareli in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, spoke passionately during a rally in the Uttar Pradesh constituency. The audience teased Rahul Gandhi about his marital status and inquired about his upcoming wedding, bringing some humor to the otherwise somber atmosphere of the occasion.

Rahul Gandhi smiled and said, “Jaldi hi karni padegi (now, I will have to get married soon)” in response to the question of when he was getting married.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Rahul Gandhi’s sister and Congress leader, also attended the event at Rae Bareli. On May 3, the Congress announced Rahul Gandhi as a candidate in Rae Bareli and loyalist KL Sharma in Amethi, leaving Priyanka Gandhi and Robert Vadra out of the election.

Before handing the reins to Rahul in 2004, Sonia Gandhi ran for and won Amethi in 1999. Former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi had won Raebareli three times prior to Sonia. Additionally, the constituency twice elected Feroze Gandhi, the Congress leader and spouse of Indira, in 1952 and 1957.

Rahul Gandhi made an impassioned speech in Maharajganj, Rae Bareli, saying, “Our relationship with Rae Bareli dates back a century.” I told my mother a few days ago, while we were sitting down to dinner, that I had mentioned in a video that I had two mothers: Sonia ji and Indira ji. My mother was not pleased about this, but I tried to comfort her by telling her that a mother is the one who guides her child and provides protection. This was done for me by both Indira Ji and my mother. This represents the ‘karma-bhoomi’ of my two mothers. I have come to challenge Rae Bareli for this reason.

In addition, Rahul Gandhi claimed that, for the first time in Indian history, “BJP-RSS people want to end our Constitution.” Their leaders have made it quite evident that they intend to amend the Constitution if they win power.”

The Congress MP made a commitment to farmers, saying, “My first job will be to waive off loans of poor farmers if the Congress-INDIA bloc comes to power at the Centre.”

In Wayanad, Kerala, Rahul Gandhi is the current Member of Parliament and is running for reelection with Rae Bareli. Rahul was Amethi’s representative from 2004 to 2019. In Rae Bareli, he will take against BJP MLC Dinesh Pratap Singh, a Congress defector and three-time MLC.

The fifth phase of the Rae Bareli constituency elections will take place on May 20. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Congress leader Sonia Gandhi won the constituency with 5,34,918 votes. Dinesh Pratap Singh, her closest challenger, mounted a formidable campaign, receiving 3,67,740 votes.
