The lift at a Noida housing society began soaring abruptly, reaching the 25th story before colliding with the roof.
On Sunday, a lift at a Noida housing society malfunctioned and fell through the top story roof, injuring three persons. According to sources, the event occurred in Tower 5 of Paras Tierra Society, Sector 137, Noida.
According to NDTV, the lift’s brakes failed while it was on Tower 5’s fourth floor. It began soaring unexpectedly, reached the 25th story, and then slammed into the roof.
When the incident occurred, there were three persons inside, two of them were women. All three have incurred injuries. Since the incident, the tower’s two lifts have been closed, and occupants have been instructed to take the stairs.
According to the source, the inhabitants claimed that a lack of maintenance caused the technical malfunction. The police are investigating the situation, and the perpetrators will face consequences.
“We will demand that the architects and builders conduct an investigation into this entire situation. Our number one priority is the safety of our residents. We will take all necessary efforts to prevent similar tragedies in the future,” the Paras Tierra Society Apartment Owners Association told NDTV.
Previously, a 73-year-old woman from the same community died in a lift accident. The tragedy occurred when the woman entered the lift from the ninth level and fell to the ground when the lift cable snapped.
These aren’t the only cases where people were hurt or killed in elevator accidents. In April 2023, nine people were injured when an elevator at a Noida hotel fell from the third floor to the building’s basement. In July 2022, a woman was hurt when a lift fell loose at Supertech Supernova housing in Sector 94.
