Under the Narendra Modi administration, according to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, China cannot advance on a “single inch” of territory.
The Congress party accused the Narendra Modi government on Tuesday of handing Beijing a “clean chit” after Union Home Minister Amit Shah stated that China could not intrude on a “single inch” of land under the current administration. Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh stated that the Modi government makes it more difficult for India to cope with China’s illegal encroachment every time the BJP “gives a clean chit” to the nearby country.
Jairam Ramesh referred to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s four-year-old speech following an all-party meeting in the aftermath of the Galwan skirmish, saying his “lie was used by the Chinese all over the world to deny their encroachments onto Indian territory.”
The Congressman in charge of communications, Ramesh, remarked, “Now, the only man who can give the Prime Minister competition in lying and falsifying facts-his Home Minister-has also given a clean chit to China.”
Amit Shah, speaking at an election rally in Lakhimpur, Assam, claimed that the Narendra Modi government would not allow China to intrude on a “single inch” of land.
“During the Chinese onslaught in 1962, Jawaharlal Nehru said ‘bye-bye’ to Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. “People from these states will never forget that,” Shah remarked.
But now that the Narendra Modi government is in office, China is unable to infringe on even a single square inch of our territory. We drove them to retreat in Doklam by standing hard against them for forty-five days,” he continued.
In response to Shah’s words, Ramesh stated on X, “Each time the BJP gives a clean chit to China, they make it harder for India to deal with China’s illegal encroachment.”
“China has taken 2,000 square kilometers of Indian territory. China has taken control 26 of Ladakh’s 65 patrol posts. China has established full villages 50-60 kilometers deep within Arunachal Pradesh, as proven by satellite imagery and raised by BJP MP Tapir Gao on the floor of the Lok Sabha,” the Congress leader stated.
He reiterated Congress’s commitment to addressing the issue head-on and outlined the party’s plans to strengthen India’s defence against external threats.
“In our Nyay-Patra, the Congress Party has clearly acknowledged the occupation of land and the threat posed by China, and articulated a clear plan to strengthen our defence. From June 4 onwards, the Chinese encroachment on Indian soil will be halted decisively,” Ramesh said.
India and China have been having military and diplomatic negotiations to achieve disengagement in the Ladakh region of the Line of Actual Control (LAC), despite no evidence of progress in resolving the standoff that began nearly four years ago. Despite four rounds of pullout from Galwan Valley, Pangong Tso, Gogra (PP-17A), and Hot Springs (PP-15), the Indian and Chinese armies continue to deploy tens of thousands of troops and advanced weapons in the Ladakh theatre. The problems at Depsang and Demchok are still being discussed.
