A crew from the Alipur police station arrived at the scene to find that the fire had spread to a number of other structures nearby to the paint business.

New Delhi: A massive fire broke out in a factory in outer north Delhi’s Alipur district on Thursday evening, killing at least 11 persons and injuring four more, according to police.

All of the bodies are burnt, and the deceased have yet to be recognized. One of the deceased is a woman.

According to Delhi Fire Services Director Atul Garg, a call about a fire in a paint business in Nehru Enclave, near Dayal Market, was received at 5:25 p.m. on Thursday, prompting the dispatch of 22 fire tenders to the scene; additional were sent later.

According to a police official, Constable Karamveer from the team ascended to the top of an adjacent building that was not on fire and rescued the six persons using a wooden charpoy. “There were barbed wires on the ceiling of the de-addiction clinic. He threw a wooden charpoy over the wires and assisted the trapped men go to the other side while the fire was firing,” claimed the officer, who did not want to be identified.

According to Ravi Kr Singh, DCP (Outernorth), Karamveer suffered burns and was sent to Safdarjung Hospital for treatment.

After more than three hours, the fire was brought under control and quenched. After the fire was extinguished, firefighters went inside and discovered 11 bodies, believed to be factory workers. “The men’s identities have yet to be determined because their bodies were partially burned. They have been sent to the mortuary,” the officer added, noting that the temperature inside the paint facility was extremely high on Thursday evening.

Three individuals from neighboring buildings were injured and taken to Lok Nayak Hospital for treatment, police said.

The Delhi Police have filed a complaint under Section 304 of the Indian Penal Code. According to a senior police officer, Akhil Jain, a Sonipat resident, operates the plant, while Raj Rani, a Nehru Enclave resident, owns the site.
