A complaint filed by Harshvardhan Harpude of ABVP led to the registration of a case under section 295 (A) and other pertinent provisions of the Indian Penal Code.

Five Pune University students and a professor were taken into custody on Saturday for allegedly offending religious feelings when they performed a play based on the epic “Ramayan.” It is stated that the play contains offensive scenes and dialogue. Additionally, it depicts a man actor in a Sita costume smoking smokes. A brawl broke out over the performance on Friday night between representatives of the RSS-affiliated Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad and students from Pune University’s Lalit Kala Kendra.

According to police inspector Ankush Chintaman, a case was filed under section 295 (A) and other pertinent provisions of the Indian Penal Code following a complaint filed by Harshvardhan Harpude of the ABVP.

The First Information Report (FIR) claimed that the performance showed a male performer portraying Sita smoking and using derogatory language. The players allegedly heckled and attacked members of the ABVP when they expressed disapproval of the play and tried to stop the performance, according to the First Information Report (FIR).

Professor, students arrested

In relation to the incident, the police have detained students Bhavesh Patil, Jay Pednekar, Prathamesh Sawant, Rishikesh Dalvi, and Yash Chikhle as well as Dr. Pravin Bhole, the chairman of the Lalit Kala Kendra department.
