Mamata Banerjee claimed she would never forgive the Left for torturing the people of West Bengal.
Kolkata: Mamata Banerjee slammed the Mallikarjun Kharge-led Congress party on Wednesday, claiming that their affiliation with the CPI(M) will help the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), despite the Congress party’s efforts to appease the Trinamool Congress leadership for an alliance in West Bengal. In a comment that effectively ended the INDIA bloc in the state, she stated that the Congress had rejected her two-seat offer.
“The Congress does not have a single MLA in the state assembly… I promised them two Lok Sabha seats, both in Malda, but they preferred more. So I informed them I wouldn’t share a single seat with them. “CPI(M) is their leader… have they forgotten the CPI(M)’s tortures?” she asked at an event in Bengal.
Mamata Banerjee claimed she would never forgive the Left for torturing the people of West Bengal.
“I will not forgive the CPI(M). I will also not forgive people who support the CPI(M), because doing so indirectly supports the BJP. “I saw that during the last panchayat elections,” she remarked.
Banerjee said she had “no objection” if somebody from the family of the late Gani Khan Chowdhury, a prominent Congress leader from Malda, runs in the poll.
“However, the TMC will also contest. They (the Congress) would battle alongside the CPI(M) to bolster the BJP… Only the TMC is capable of politically opposing the BJP in the state,” she stated.
Mamata Banerjee has also stated that she will organize a dharna if the Central Government fails to pay the dues by February 1.
In response to Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury’s charges that stones were thrown at Rahul Gandhi’s vehicle in West Bengal, she stated the incident may have occurred in Bihar.
“I received word that Rahul Gandhi’s car was hit with stones. I investigated what happened and discovered that the incident occurred in Katihar, not Bengal. The automobile entered Bengal with its glass already cracked…I condemn this attack. “This is nothing but a drama,” Banerjee stated.
The Congress said Chowdhury’s remark was incorrect, and the car was damaged in an accident.
Mamata Banerjee’s statement comes only days after Nitish Kumar departed the INDIA group, causing the Opposition coalition to face an existential dilemma.
