Updates on the Japan earthquake : According to media reports, an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 7.6 struck north central Japan on Monday. According to reports, the Japan Meteorological Agency issued a tsunami warning along the coasts of Ishikawa, Niigata, and Toyama prefectures after a series of severe earthquakes rattled western territories.

According to Japanese public broadcaster NHK TV, Hokuriku Electric Power is investigating any abnormalities at its nuclear power reactors. The Japan Meteorological Agency reported quakes in Ishikawa and neighboring prefectures, one of which had a preliminary magnitude of 7.4.

What we know currently about the Japan earthquake :

  1. People were advised to evacuate as soon as possible to high ground or the top of a neighboring structure by NHK TV, which warned that water torrents could reach as high as 5 meters (16.5 feet).
