The countless fights Sunny Deol had as a young man in Mumbai that cost him several automobiles came to him as he reflected on his past. He declared that he would keep swords and metal rods in his car so that he would be ready for any type of violent altercation. He would then need to take precautions to prevent his parents from learning.
Sunny and his younger son Rajveer spoke with Mashable India about their love of street racing, which occasionally involved random people. He would also make some simple modifications to his car to improve it. “I’ve been in a lot of fights,” he admitted. “We once drove about with swords, metal rods, and hockey sticks. There were gangs back then, but things have changed since then.
He continued, “We used to provoke strangers into racing us. That’s the life we’ve lived.” Reflecting on the fights he’s had at Mithibai College, he said, “Guys would fight over girls, I crashed one car here also. And then I had to hide it from my parents, especially my father. My mother would handle these situations when they got out of hand.” Sunny, the son of veteran actor Dharmendra, also narrated an anecdote about getting into a violent altercation at a cricket match, because some people recognised him and started making fun of him.
He said, “I’ve had fights everywhere. At an India-New Zealand match at Brabourne Stadium, I was with my friends. Some people found out that I was Dharmendra’s son, then they started ragging me. Then they started throwing cigarette butts at me. I lost my mind. I’m a sardar, after all. I started swinging, and I had no idea who I was hitting, I just kept beating people up.” In an earlier interview with Ranveer Allahbadia, Sunny also revealed that cops had to intervene and take him away.
Gadar 2, Sunny’s most recent blockbuster that has grossed more than Rs 520 crore in India, is the biggest success of his career. On the other hand, Rajveer made his acting debut with the underwhelming box office failure Dono.
