Sanjay Singh, a top AAP politician and Rajya Sabha MP, has three more days to be questioned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
Dilip Pandey, the leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), asserted on Wednesday that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) was planning to murder Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh, who was detained by the investigation agency last week in connection with a money laundering investigation.
“The events that followed Sanjay Singh’s court appearance yesterday and the truth that emerged, it exposed BJP’s cheap politics and intention of revenge,” Pandey said at a press conference in New Delhi.
“It became evident that the ED is working with the BJP to plan the murder of Sanjay Singh. It’s a significant query that demands an explanation from the BJP and the ED, he added.
Sanjay Singh’s ED detention was extended by a special court on Tuesday until October 13 in response to the discovery of new information and the recovery of new digital evidence during a recent search by the federal agency.
Singh asserted before the judge that the ED attempted to snatch him away from its office with a “ulterior motive” at the conclusion of the arguments on an extension of custody.
“At ten o’clock at night on the day you granted custody (to ED), I was informed that I was being taken somewhere else. I questioned why they failed to alert the court. There was a problem with a chemical pesticide, according to them (ED officials). They claimed to have received calls from individuals above. I assured them that unless the judge gives the order, I won’t leave. I was requested to provide that in writing.
“They made the same claim the following day. They had a secret agenda. I questioned what would happen if I were to die in a conflict and who would be held accountable. They promised to take responsibility. When I’m dead, what good is responsibility? I requested the court’s order again, Singh said to the judge.
The judge questioned the ED on its request for Singh to provide a written statement regarding his reluctance to leave its office. Singh’s accusations of malfeasance were denied by the central organization.
The judge instructed, “You shouldn’t remove him without the court’s permission.”
The court was also made aware of the harassment and lengthy wait times experienced by the family members and attorneys who had traveled to see Singh.
“By preventing the family members from visiting Sanjay Singh while he is being held by the ED, you are torturing them.” The court acknowledged this and instructed the ED to abide by its directives and permit Sanjay Singh’s family to meet with him, according to Pandey, speaking to news agency PTI.
