The canvassing period for the DUSU elections will end on Thursday at 8 a.m., according to a notice from the chief election officer.
Prior to the elections slated on Friday, the campaigning for the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections came to an end on Thursday morning.
In the midst of violent videos spreading on social media, the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) and Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) got into a furious argument.
HT was unable to independently confirm the legitimacy of any videos shared on social media.
The ABVP claimed in a written statement that NSUI was involved in violent incidents during the election campaign that involved outsiders.
The ABVP claimed in a written statement that NSUI was involved in violent incidents during the election campaign that involved outsiders.
In response to claims, NSUI asserted that ABVP was degrading the environment by engaging in indiscipline and hooliganism.
According to NSUI, “ABVP goons continuously harassed students and a climate of fear is being created on the Delhi University campus.”
Chief election officer Chandra Shekhar stated, “I have not formally received any complaints. The incidents depicted in the videos that are being discussed didn’t occur within any of the campus’ colleges. Principals are expected to take strong action if the incidents had occurred inside the college, according to Shekhar.
In the meantime, the student organization Krantikari Yuva Sangathan (KYS) made the decision to clean the streets, which were covered in campaign literature.
“The DU campus is cluttered with cards and posters for various candidates, and the walls are covered with them. But the election process entirely ignores the fundamental concerns that are affecting DU students as well as the bulk of the country’s young. The use of money and force, on the other hand, is clearly on display, according to KYS’s statement.
An FIR (first information report) was filed by Delhi police on Wednesday in connection with the case stemming from a fictitious video that allegedly shows guys destroying a car with lathes in Mukherjee Nagar earlier this week.
Police have filed a FIR in response to a complaint, according to Jitendra Meena, deputy commissioner of police (DCP) for the north-western region.
“There was a complaint that a car had been damaged, and we looked into it. We have filed a FIR, though I am unsure if it has anything to do with the DUSU elections at this time, added Meena.
