An attempt at infiltration was thwarted on Saturday in the Gohlan region of Uri in the Baramulla district of North Kashmir by the Indian Army and combined security forces. Terrorists and security personnel are now engaged in combat.
Nothing has been made public about the terrorists that were slain as of yet. Security personnel are hard at work locating them. Two Pakistani terrorists were slain by security forces in an encounter in Balamula earlier on Wednesday, June 21. They were both associated with Tashkar-e-Taiba.
North Kashmir’s terrorism is set to be revived by the neighbouring Pakistani nation. This region saw a rise in terror between 2005 and 2015. However, as a result of a move by the Jammu and Kashmir Police, the Baramulla district was deemed terrorist-free in 2019. Security services claim that while there are still more international terrorists of Pakistani descent than domestic terrorists, they are being killed.
For the Amarnath Yatra, paramilitary personnel started to be deployed in Jammu and Kashmir. There are 24 additional companies of paramilitary soldiers in the Jammu district this time around, five or six more than the previous year. For the first time, paramilitary personnel are being deployed in areas where there may be a chance of an adverse incident besides to the Amarnath Yatra route, pilgrims’ accommodation locations, langars, and other locations.
About fifteen thousand security guards, comprising police and paramilitary groups, are stationed throughout the Jammu district in various locations. Compared to last year, 20% more security guards are being sent out this year. According to SSP Jammu Vinod Kumar, there are enough security forces in place to ensure the safety of the Yatra. There will be extra security in a few selected areas of risk.
