Following the IPL, the Indian side took part in the T20 World Cup three times, but each time it was failed to go past the semifinals or elimination stage. Let’s examine the documentation.
The T20 World Cup 2024 is about to take off in a few hours. The nineth T20 World Cup is coming up, and every team is prepared. With twenty countries taking part, this T20 World Cup will be the largest yet. India is in Group A with the US, Canada, Pakistan, Ireland, and Pakistan. When Team India, led by Rohit Sharma, takes the field to break the 11-year ICC trophy drought, all eyes will be on them. For the Indian team, meanwhile, this will not be a simple trip. The primary factor is that Team India entered this competition directly following the Indian Premier League, and in previous instances, India’s performance was awful.
Following the IPL, the Indian squad took part in the T20 World Cup three times, but failed to advance past the semifinals or removal stage each time. Twelve days after the IPL, India competed in the 2009 T20 World Cup but lost in the first round of the Super Eight. In the meantime, in 2010, the team qualified for the T20 World Cup five days after the IPL concluded, but they were ousted in the Super Eight round. Eight days after the IPL concluded in 2021, the Indian squad competed in the T20 World Cup but didn’t manage to go past the group round. Next, India had to lose against teams like New Zealand and Pakistan.
But it has helped Team India to participate in an ICC ODI tournament just after the IPL. The Indian side has played in three ICC One-Day International (ODI) competitions since 2008, all following the conclusion of the Indian Premier League, and each time they performed admirably. The Champions Trophy for 2013 went to Team India. Concurrently, the Indian squad progressed to the 2017 Champions Trophy final. India was eliminated from the 2019 ODI World Cup after a loss in the semi-finals.
Eight days after the IPL 2023 final, India faced defeat in the World Test Championship final against Australia. In addition, the Indian squad has struggled in bilateral and tri-series matches played right after the IPL. Five of the nine series the team played immediately after the IPL were wins. Three series were lost by Team India. There was only one series drawn. In the 2008 tri-series final, Pakistan won against India. They were also lost in the ODI series by Australia in 2020 and Bangladesh in 2015. In 2022, the Twenty20 series versus South Africa concluded in a 2-2 draw.
Since the 2008 inception of the Indian Premier League, Team India has failed to win the T20 World Cup once. India has had varying outcomes in all ICC competitions. Since 2008, Team India has participated in 16 ICC competitions and has advanced to seven finals. Only twice could the team emerge triumphant from these. Other than this, the Indian team lost to get past the Super-Eight or League Round five times and the semi-finals four times. India has won two trophies in One-Day Internationals.
Team India won the Champions Trophy in England in 2013 after claiming the ODI World Cup at home in 2011.
