Due to the state of Maharashtra’s high rainfall, up to 13 National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams have been sent to various districts. The Mumbai area was placed on yellow alert on Friday by the India Meteorological Department. On Thursday, various areas of the city experienced waterlogging. Colleges and schools remained closed. Up until Thursday, Mumbai has gotten 90% of the seasonally typical amount of precipitation.
The Tansa Lake, one of Mumbai’s seven water supply lakes, began overflowing today at 4:35 AM (Wednesday), according to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).
“The monsoon has gotten worse throughout all of Maharashtra because it is active in the Southwest. Since 223 mm of rain have been recorded in Colaba during the past 24 hours and 145 mm have been recorded in Santacruz, we have issued a red alert warning for Mumbai. In Mumbai, we’ve issued an orange alert warning for today.Yellow and orange advisories have been issued for Vidarbha and Marathwada, respectively, according to IMD spokesman Sunil Kamble.
On Thursday, IMD Mumbai issued a red signal for the city and the nearby Raigad area due to the likelihood of significant rainfall. The neighboring Thane and Palghar districts received orange alerts in the meantime.
Both the Colaba observatory, which represents the island city, and the Santacruz observatory, which represents the suburbs, both recorded considerable rainfall in the twenty-four hours ending at 8.30 am on Thursday, according to IMD Mumbai. The Santacruz observatory recorded 145.1 mm of rainfall over the same time period, compared to 223.2 mm at the Colaba observatory, which was unusually heavy rainfall. These rainfall readings show that there was significant precipitation in both locations, with the island city receiving more rain than the suburbs.
