In an interview with The Indian Express, she discussed the failure of her previous film, Chhapaak, starring Deepika Padukone as acid assault survivor Laxmi.
Gulzar admitted that Padukone’s visit had an impact on Chhapaak’s box office results. “I’m confident the answer is self-evident. Of sure, it had an impact on the picture. Because the topic shifted away from acid violence, which I meant the picture to emphasize. So, of course, that had an impact on the film. “There’s no denying it,” she stated.
Deepika Padukone’s visit to JNU
Deepika Padukone was in Delhi in January 2020 to promote Chhapaak. Tensions rose in JNU when masked miscreants stormed the campus, assaulting students in the Sabarmati hostel with metal rods and clubs. When students were accused of chanting anti-national slogans on campus, things went awry. Padukone took the picture three days before Chhapaak’s release.a part in a protest at JNU.

Padukone expressed her pride at being able to express herself in an interview with NDTV before to her visit to JNU. “I’m proud to see that we’re not afraid to express ourselves… I believe that the fact that we are considering the country and its future…. “It’s nice to see, regardless of our point of view,” the actor had stated.
