The foreign ministers of the QUAD countries \u2014 the United States, India, Japan, and Australia \u2014 have strongly condemned the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, and called for the immediate prosecution of those responsible. In a joint statement issued on Wednesday, the ministers urged all United Nations member states to ensure the perpetrators, conspirators, and financiers of the attack are brought to justice without delay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The deadly attack, carried out by armed terrorists, resulted in the brutal killing of 26 innocent civilians, including 25 Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen. In their statement, QUAD leaders extended their deep condolences to the families of the victims and expressed wishes for the speedy recovery of those injured.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe unequivocally condemn the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. We call on all UN member states to actively cooperate with relevant authorities under international law and relevant UNSC resolutions to bring the perpetrators, organizers, and financiers of this heinous act to justice without delay,\u201d the statement read.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The QUAD also reiterated its commitment to counter-terrorism cooperation, highlighting the urgent need for global unity in combating violent extremism and cross-border terrorism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe QUAD condemns all forms of terrorism, including cross-border terrorism, and reaffirms its dedication to eliminating terrorist threats. There must be zero tolerance for terrorism, and no justification or sympathy should be extended to those who carry out such crimes,\u201d the statement emphasized.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Ahead of the ministerial meeting in Washington, India\u2019s External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar spoke about the need for a free, open, and inclusive Indo-Pacific region. Stressing the importance of regional autonomy and security, he said that countries in the region should have the freedom to make independent choices for their development and safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIn recent months, the QUAD has made significant progress across various initiatives. Our joint efforts are crucial in ensuring stability and peace in the Indo-Pacific,\u201d Jaishankar said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

He further asserted India\u2019s right to defend its citizens against terrorism and reiterated the government\u2019s stance on taking decisive action against terror threats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe world must demonstrate zero tolerance towards terrorism. The pain of victims should never be equated with the agendas of those who spread terror. India has the right to protect its people, and we will exercise that right. The belief that terrorists cannot be punished because they are across the border is outdated and unacceptable,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Jaishankar also referred to India\u2019s recent counter-terrorism operation, \u2018Operation Sindoor\u2019<\/strong>, as a clear message to those who assume immunity from justice due to geographic boundaries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
