India marks a significant milestone as the Digital India Mission<\/strong> completes ten years since its launch on July 1, 2015<\/strong>. To commemorate the occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi<\/strong> shared a blog titled \u201cA Decade of Digital India\u201d<\/em> on his official LinkedIn account, reflecting on the journey of technological transformation in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Highlighting the mission\u2019s impact over the past decade, PM Modi noted how India evolved from limited internet access in 2014 to becoming a global leader in digital technology by 2024. He emphasized that technology has played a key role in bridging the gap between the rich and the poor and has now become an integral part of everyday life for over 1.4 billion Indians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Internet Growth and Connectivity Expansion<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

In 2014, India had around 250 million internet connections<\/strong>. Today, that number has surged to 970 million<\/strong>. The Prime Minister also highlighted how high-speed internet<\/strong> has reached even the most remote areas of the country, including Galwan<\/strong> and Siachen<\/strong>. He lauded India\u2019s 5G rollout<\/strong> as the fastest in the world, with nearly 500,000 base stations installed within two years<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

UPI and Direct Benefit Transfers<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

India\u2019s success with the Unified Payments Interface (UPI)<\/strong> has drawn global attention. The platform now handles over 100 billion transactions annually<\/strong>. Additionally, Direct Benefit Transfers (DBT)<\/strong> have become a cornerstone of welfare delivery, with \u20b944 lakh crore<\/strong> disbursed directly to beneficiaries, eliminating middlemen and saving the government around \u20b93.5 lakh crore<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Boost to Digital Commerce and Governance<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

PM Modi pointed to platforms like ONDC (Open Network for Digital Commerce)<\/strong> and GeM (Government e-Marketplace)<\/strong> as drivers of digital empowerment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • ONDC<\/strong> recently crossed 200 million transactions<\/strong>, providing small businesses with access to large markets.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • GeM<\/strong> achieved sales worth over \u20b91 lakh crore<\/strong> in just 50 days, enabling 22 lakh sellers<\/strong>, including 1.8 lakh women-led MSMEs<\/strong>, to fulfill government orders worth \u20b946,000 crore<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    Property Rights and Governance through Technology<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    Under the SVAMITVA scheme<\/strong>, over 2.4 crore property cards<\/strong> have been issued, and more than 600,000 villages<\/strong> have been digitally mapped. The scheme aims to give rural property owners legal ownership through advanced surveying technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Global Recognition of Indian Digital Platforms<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    Indian digital platforms such as Aadhaar<\/strong>, CoWIN<\/strong>, DigiLocker<\/strong>, and FASTag<\/strong> are now being studied and replicated globally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    • CoWIN<\/strong> played a critical role in managing the world\u2019s largest vaccination drive by issuing 220 crore vaccination certificates<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • DigiLocker<\/strong> now stores over 775 crore documents<\/strong> for 54 crore users<\/strong>, simplifying access to essential records.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

      India\u2019s Rise as a Startup and AI Powerhouse<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

      PM Modi also underlined India’s emergence as one of the top three startup ecosystems globally<\/strong>, with over 1.8 lakh startups<\/strong>. The country is rapidly advancing in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI)<\/strong> through the India AI Mission<\/strong>, backed by a $1.2 billion investment<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      He shared that India has enabled access to 34,000 GPUs globally<\/strong> at less than $1 per GPU hour<\/strong>, making it not just the world\u2019s most affordable digital economy<\/strong>, but also the most cost-effective computational hub<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Vision for the Future<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

      Calling on innovators and entrepreneurs, PM Modi stated that the next decade will be even more transformative<\/strong>, as India continues to emerge as a reliable global digital partner<\/strong>. He emphasized the need to build technologies that empower people and strengthen India’s leadership in the digital world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
