In the aftermath of the tragic crash of Air India flight AI171, which claimed the lives of approximately 270 passengers on June 12, 2025, Air India CEO Campbell Wilson has issued an official statement addressing the public and media. He clarified that there were no technical issues with the aircraft or its engines prior to takeoff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wilson said, \u201cWe want to share some important facts about flight AI171 to provide clarity during this difficult time. The aircraft was well-maintained. Its last major maintenance check was conducted in June 2023, and the next was scheduled for December 2025.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

He further revealed that both engines of the aircraft underwent routine and recent maintenance: \u201cThe right engine underwent repairs in March 2025, while the left engine was inspected in April 2025. Both engines, as well as the aircraft itself, were regularly monitored, and no irregularities were found before the flight.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

DGCA Orders In-Depth Inspection of Boeing 787 Fleet<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

In response to the incident, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) issued a directive on June 14, 2025, requiring a thorough inspection of all Boeing 787 aircraft operated by Air India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Wilson, \u201cWe have conducted deep inspections of 26 out of our 33 Boeing 787 aircraft. These planes have been cleared and are back in service. The remaining aircraft are undergoing additional checks before returning to operation.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

He reassured the public that Air India\u2019s Boeing 787 fleet and its maintenance protocols meet the required safety standards. \u201cFollowing review, DGCA has confirmed that our Boeing 787 fleet and maintenance procedures fully comply with aviation safety norms,\u201d<\/em> he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
