The Mysuru-Darbhanga Bagmati Express collided with a parked freight train in Tamil Nadu’s Kavarapettai on Friday evening, causing several people to be injured.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to a Railways statement, the event happened at 8:30 p.m. on the Ponneri-Kavarapettai stretch of the Madras (Chennai) division. In addition, the site’s images show a fire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Train no. 12578 passed through Ponneri at 20:27 hours. The crew felt a strong shock, and the train entered the loop line, colliding with a stalled goods train… The statement read, “There were no casualties and only a few injuries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to VPN, CPRO South Western Railway reported that at least 12 to 13 train coaches had derailed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Train no. 12578 Mysuru-Darbhanga Express collided with a goods train at Kavaraippettai Railway Station around 20.30 hrs on the Chennai-Guddur section between Ponneri and Kavarappettai railway stations (46 km from Chennai) of the Chennai Division…”As a result, the package van adjacent to the engine caught fire and was extinguished by the fire department. “A total of 12-13 coaches have derailed,” the official stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So far, no casualties have been recorded. All injured passengers are transported to local hospitals for further treatment. “Train movement in both directions is prohibited,” they added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to a railway official present at the accident site, 19 passengers have been hurt thus far. “14 of them sustained significant injuries and were transported to Stanley Hospital. “Five others have minor injuries,” the official said, declining to be named.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The railways stated a medical assistance van had been dispatched to the scene, and a rescue squad had also departed Chennai Central Station.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tiruvallur district collector T Prabhushankar, senior state authorities, and the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Chennai, Southern Railway, are on their way to the accident site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin stated that he has directed minister SM Nasar and other government officials, including the district collector, to visit the accident site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I was surprised to learn of a train disaster in Kavaripettai, Tiruvallur district. As soon as the information became available, I directed Minister SM Nasar and other government officials, including the District Collector, to go to the accident site. “The government is working quickly on rescue and relief efforts,” Stalin stated in a post on X.

“The injured are promptly sent to a hospital. A second team is working to arrange meals and transportation for the remaining guests to return home. The fire department is in the process of removing the accident train coaches. “I will continue to monitor the rescue operations,” he said.
