Indian artists Shankar Mahadevan and Zakir Hussain’s fusion ensemble ‘Shakti’ won the Grammy for ‘Best Global Music Album’ on Monday. The award was for their current album, ‘This Moment’.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In an acceptance speech, Mahadevan said, \u201cThank you boys. Thank you God, family, friends, and India. India, we are proud of you\u2026Last but not the least, I would like to dedicate this award to my wife whom every note of my music is dedicated to.\u201d The musician’s speech evoked a loud cheer from the crowd.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

John McLaughlin (guitar synth), Zakir Hussain (tabla), Shankar Mahadevan (singer), V Selvaganesh (percussionist), and Ganesh Rajagopalan (violinist) composed the eight tracks on the album ‘This Moment’, which was published on June 30 of last year. They were nominated for the Grammys alongside Susana Baca, Bokante, Burna Boy, and Davido.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, Zakir Hussain won the ‘Best Global Music Performance’ Grammy for his work on ‘Pashto’ with Bela Fleck and Edgar Meyer, which featured Rakesh Chaurasia, a talented flute player. Hussain won three Grammys in a single night, while Chaurasia received two.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
