In a chilling case that has sent shockwaves across Uttar Pradesh’s Kasganj district, a woman and her lover brutally murdered her husband and dumped his body in a tubewell tank. The incident, which took place in the Bharagaon area of Patiali, has devastated a family of nine children, six of whom were left crying by the roadside after their mother fled with her partner.

Love Affair Turns Deadly

According to the police, Reena — a mother of nine — conspired with her lover Hanif to kill her husband Rattiram (50), a daily-wage laborer who had recently moved to Bharagaon with his family for work at a local brick kiln. Reena and Hanif had been in a relationship for over a year, and Rattiram had reportedly opposed their affair.

On the night of June 18, the duo executed their plan. Reena sat on Rattiram’s chest, while Hanif strangled him and violently assaulted his chest. In a gruesome act, Hanif even bit off Rattiram’s nose during the attack. The couple then dumped the body in a tubewell water tank and fled the scene, leaving six children behind.

Children Found Crying, Body Discovered Days Later

On June 21, locals found Rattiram’s children crying near an abandoned brick kiln and informed the police. The next day, a foul smell led residents to a tubewell, where they discovered a decomposed body partially submerged in water. The body was later identified as Rattiram’s.

Police teams led by SSP Ankita Sharma and ASP Rajesh Bharti reached the scene with forensic experts and recovered the body. An autopsy confirmed the cause of death as strangulation and blunt force trauma.

Police Crack the Case, Arrest Accused

Following an FIR lodged by Rattiram’s brother Arvind, police launched an investigation and arrested Reena and Hanif near Dariyavganj Railway Station on June 24. During interrogation, Reena confessed to planning the murder for over a year due to her husband’s resistance to her extramarital affair. She also claimed he was abusive and frequently drank.

Hanif admitted to biting Rattiram’s nose and disposing of his blood-soaked clothes by burying them in a nearby field, which the police later recovered based on his statement.

Children Left Orphaned and Traumatized

Of Reena and Rattiram’s nine children, three are married. The remaining six — who were living with them in Bharagaon — have now been placed under the custody of their grandfather, who has taken them back to Farrukhabad.

Official Statement

“The accused Reena and Hanif were arrested from near Dariyavganj railway station. They confessed to killing Rattiram as he opposed their relationship. This brutal murder was premeditated and executed jointly by both accused,” said Rajesh Bharti, Additional Superintendent of Police, Kasganj.

The case has raised serious concerns about domestic violence, the impact of unstable family dynamics on children, and the need for stronger community support systems in rural India.
