Bhatt to become first BJP state president in Uttarakhand to serve two consecutive terms; top leaders including Nishank, Trivendra, and Tirath Singh to be elected to National Council.
Dehradun, July 1 – Mahendra Bhatt is all set to be re-elected as the Uttarakhand BJP President for a second consecutive term, marking a historic moment for the state unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The nomination process, held on Monday at the state party headquarters, saw Bhatt as the sole candidate, virtually confirming his continuation in the top organizational post.
The official announcement will be made today (Tuesday) during the State Council meeting by Central Election Officer Harsh Malhotra, confirming Bhatt’s election as well as the selection of eight leaders for the party’s National Council.
Uncontested Nomination Signals Strong Support
Bhatt submitted his nomination papers in the presence of top state leaders including Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, BJP state in-charge Dushyant Kumar Gautam, and other senior officials. The nomination, filed in five sets, had ten proposers, with key leaders like CM Dhami, former CM Trivendra Singh Rawat, Union Minister Ajay Bhatt, Garhwal MP Anil Baluni, and Almora MP and MoS Ajay Tamta backing Bhatt’s candidature.
Election officer Khajan Das confirmed that all paperwork was in order, with signatures from prominent party members including:
- Former CMs Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, Tirath Singh Rawat
- Rajya Sabha MPs Naresh Bansal, Kalpana Saini
- Cabinet Ministers Satpal Maharaj, Ganesh Joshi, Subodh Uniyal
- Former State President Bishan Singh Chufal
- MLAs Vinod Chamoli, Umesh Sharma Kau, and Vinod Kandari
National Council Members Finalized
Eight prominent leaders are set to be elected to the BJP National Council from Uttarakhand. Their names include:
- Union Minister Ajay Tamta
- Former Chief Ministers Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, Trivendra Singh Rawat, Tirath Singh Rawat
- MoS Ajay Bhatt
- Cabinet Minister Dhan Singh Rawat
- MP Maharani Mala Rajya Laxmi Shah
- MP Kalpana Saini
These nominations are uncontested and their election is considered a formality.
Historic Second Term for Mahendra Bhatt
Upon the formal declaration, Mahendra Bhatt will become the first BJP state president in Uttarakhand’s history to serve two consecutive terms. He will be the 10th state BJP president overall. His first tenure witnessed the party’s strong electoral performance and significant organizational expansion across the state.
“Under Mahendra Bhatt’s leadership, we have achieved consistent electoral victories. He has vast political experience and has strengthened the party from the grassroots to the top level,” said Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami.

Democratic Structure of BJP Highlighted
Speaking on the occasion, Anil Baluni, BJP’s National Media Head and Garhwal MP, stated:
“BJP is the only party in India that follows a full democratic process — from booth-level workers to the national president. Every active member has a role in this electoral exercise.”
