Popular Punjabi singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh is once again making headlines with the release of the trailer for his upcoming film Sardaar Ji 3. Amid the buzz, many are revisiting his humble beginnings and how he rose to fame in the music and film industry.

Humble Beginnings in Punjab

Born on January 6, 1984, in Jalandhar, Punjab, Diljit comes from a modest background. His father was a bus conductor with Punjab Roadways. Due to financial constraints, he moved to Ludhiana to live with his uncle, where he continued his education. He studied at Shri Harkrishan Public School and later at Almanar Public School, completing his 10th grade.

His birth name is Diljit Singh Dosanjh, with “Dosanjh” being derived from the name of his native village. Before stepping into the entertainment world, he adopted Diljit Dosanjh as his stage name — a change reportedly suggested by industry mentor Rajinder Singh of T-Series.

Early Love for Music

Diljit displayed a passion for singing from a young age. He began by performing devotional hymns (Shabad Kirtan) at his local gurdwara. He regularly participated in school assemblies, cultural events, and competitions, honing his skills and building his confidence on stage.

Career Debut and Breakthrough

Diljit made his professional singing debut in 2002, and a year later, his first album Ishq Da Uda Ada was released in 2003. With the support of T-Series’ Rajinder Singh, who played a pivotal role in shaping his music career and public image, Diljit continued to release back-to-back albums.

His 2005 album “Smile” marked a major breakthrough, earning him recognition across Punjab and among the diaspora. In 2009, he collaborated with Yo Yo Honey Singh on the album The Next Level, which became a major hit.

Chart-Topping Singer

Over the years, Diljit has delivered several hit tracks, including:

  • Born to Shine
  • Do You Know
  • Patiala Peg
  • Sauda Khara Khara
  • Teri Aankhen Bhool Bhulaiyaa
  • Udta Punjab (title track)

In 2020, he was featured in Billboard’s Social 50 chart, and his music made it to the Canadian Albums Chart and New Zealand Hot Singles Chart, proving his international appeal.

Successful Transition to Films

Besides music, Diljit has also established himself as a versatile actor. He made his Bollywood debut in 2016 with the critically acclaimed film Udta Punjab, for which he won the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor.

He later appeared in the comedy hit Good Newwz (2019), alongside Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor. In the Punjabi film industry, he has starred in major blockbusters like:

  • Jatt & Juliet 2
  • Sajjan Singh Rangroot
  • Honsla Rakh
  • Jatt & Juliet 3 (upcoming)

Controversy Around ‘Sardaar Ji 3’

Diljit is currently in the spotlight for the upcoming film Sardaar Ji 3, whose trailer features Pakistani actress Hania Aamir. The collaboration has sparked mixed reactions on social media, with some praising the cross-border artistic effort, while others have criticized it.

Despite the controversy, Sardaar Ji 3 remains highly anticipated, as fans look forward to another entertaining performance from the multi-talented star.
