Today marks the fifth death anniversary of Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput, who tragically passed away on this day in 2020. As fans across the country remember the beloved star, actor Alok Pandey, who portrayed the role of Chittu in the acclaimed biopic MS Dhoni: The Untold Story, shared emotional and heartfelt memories in an exclusive conversation with Amar Ujala.
“I Couldn’t Believe the News,” Says Alok Pandey
Recalling the day of Sushant’s untimely demise, Alok Pandey said he was in his village when he first heard the shocking news. “I initially thought someone was joking. It was only after I saw it on news channels that I believed it. I was left stunned,” he shared.
According to Alok, Sushant was a deeply positive, energetic, and intellectually curious individual. “He lived life with such enthusiasm. The way he spoke made you believe that no dream was too big. I could never have imagined something like this could happen to someone like him,” Alok added.
Their Last Conversation: A Poetic Exchange
During the emotional interview, Alok revealed that his last interaction with Sushant took place over Instagram, where he had sent the late actor a poem. To his surprise, Sushant responded with a lengthy and thoughtful reply, expressing a desire to meet up soon — a meeting that, heartbreakingly, never happened.
Alok also reminisced about the time Sushant supported him during the release of his film Lucknow Central. “When I messaged him to congratulate him and shared the news about my film, he immediately replied, saying, ‘You are an amazing actor.’ He was someone who always lifted others up with his words and support,” Alok said with emotion.

Growing Distance After ‘Chhichhore’
Alok mentioned that their communication became less frequent after the release of Sushant’s 2019 film Chhichhore. Despite that, the bond they shared remained strong in spirit. “His departure was like losing a Shah Rukh, Aamir, or Salman for me. He was my superstar. Our connection was very special,” Alok said.
He described Sushant not just as a talented actor but as a compassionate human being who truly valued the emotions of others. “He believed in spreading positivity wherever he went,” Alok added.
Closure After Years of Investigation
It’s important to note that after years of investigation into Sushant Singh Rajput’s death by agencies including the CBI, NIA, and other central bodies, no evidence of foul play or conspiracy was found. Earlier this year, a closure report was officially filed, marking the end of one of the most widely discussed cases in recent Indian cinema history.
Remembering a Star Gone Too Soon
As tributes pour in from fans and colleagues alike, it is evident that Sushant Singh Rajput left behind not just a powerful legacy through his films, but also a lasting impact on those who knew him personally.
For Alok Pandey and countless others, Sushant’s memories live on — as a superstar, a philosopher, and above all, a true friend.
