New Delhi, February 20, 2025: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and first-time MLA from Shalimar Bagh, Rekha Gupta, officially took charge as the ninth Chief Minister of Delhi today. She assumed office at the Delhi Secretariat and reiterated her commitment to fulfilling every promise made to the people of the national capital.

Grand Oath-Taking Ceremony at Ramlila Maidan

Earlier in the day, Rekha Gupta was administered the oath of office by Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena at a grand ceremony held at Ramlila Maidan. The event witnessed the presence of several top BJP leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP National President JP Nadda, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and Chief Ministers and Deputy Chief Ministers from various NDA-ruled states.

Addressing the gathering, PM Modi extended his best wishes to the newly elected Chief Minister and her Council of Ministers. He expressed confidence that the new government would work tirelessly for the development of Delhi. “This team beautifully mixes vigour and experience, and will surely ensure good governance for Delhi. Best wishes to them,” PM Modi said.

First Cabinet Meeting and Key Priorities

According to party sources, CM Rekha Gupta will hold her first Cabinet meeting later today. The meeting is expected to discuss immediate governance priorities and key welfare schemes. Following the Cabinet meeting, the Chief Minister is scheduled to visit the Yamuna to review the ongoing clean-up and restoration efforts at Vasudev Ghat.

One of the major promises made by Rekha Gupta during her campaign was providing financial assistance of ₹2,500 per month to eligible women in Delhi. In her first address after taking office, she assured that her government would stand by its commitment. “The first installment of the monthly support will be credited to eligible women’s accounts by March 8,” she announced.

AAP’s Governance Under Scrutiny

CM Gupta also emphasized that her government would ensure accountability for the previous administration led by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). “Every action taken during the AAP government’s tenure will be scrutinized, and the people of Delhi will be made aware of any misgovernance,” she stated.

PM Modi Meets NDA Leaders at Imperial Hotel

Following the swearing-in ceremony, Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived at the Imperial Hotel to attend a high-level meeting with NDA leaders. The meeting is expected to focus on upcoming political strategies, governance plans for Delhi, and discussions on strengthening BJP’s presence in the capital.

Delhi’s New Cabinet Ministers Take Charge

After taking the oath, the newly appointed Cabinet Ministers visited Yamuna’s Vasudev Ghat, symbolizing the government’s commitment to environmental rejuvenation. The ministers are expected to take charge of their respective portfolios in the coming days and begin implementing key policy decisions.

As CM Rekha Gupta embarks on her new journey, all eyes are on how her government delivers on its promises and tackles the pressing challenges facing Delhi. With a mix of experienced leaders and fresh faces in her Cabinet, the BJP-led Delhi government is poised to introduce a new era of governance in the capital.
