New Delhi: The suspense over the new Chief Minister of Delhi has finally ended, with Rekha Gupta being chosen as the next CM. The oath-taking ceremony is scheduled for February 20 at 11:00 AM. Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena will administer the oath to the new Chief Minister and the cabinet ministers at 12:35 PM. Earlier, the ceremony was proposed to take place at 4:30 PM, but the schedule has now been revised.
BJP Legislative Party Meeting Finalizes the CM Name
On Wednesday evening, the newly elected BJP MLAs in Delhi convened for a crucial meeting to elect their legislative party leader. Following the meeting, party leaders met with Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena to stake a claim to form the government. The swearing-in ceremony is set to take place at the historic Ramlila Maidan on February 20.
Ravi Shankar Prasad and OP Dhankhar Appointed as Observers
Prior to the meeting, the Bharatiya Janata Party’s parliamentary board appointed senior leaders Ravi Shankar Prasad and OP Dhankhar as observers for the selection of the legislative party leader. These observers played a key role in finalizing the name of Rekha Gupta as the Chief Minister. The meeting was conducted in their presence, ensuring a smooth decision-making process.
Dignitaries Expected at the Swearing-in Ceremony
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to attend the grand swearing-in ceremony, along with several Chief Ministers from BJP and NDA-ruled states. With high-profile leaders in attendance, Delhi Police is implementing an extensive security arrangement to ensure the event proceeds smoothly. The presence of the Prime Minister will warrant a multi-layered security cover, including Special Protection Group (SPG) security arrangements.
