In a letter addressed to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has expressed deep concerns over the deteriorating law and order situation in the national capital. The letter, which highlights alarming crime statistics and the growing sense of insecurity among the people of Delhi, also requests a meeting with Shah to discuss the matter in detail.

Kejriwal stated that Delhi, once a symbol of progress, is now known as the crime capital of India. According to the letter, the city has topped the list in India’s 19 metro cities for crimes against women and murders. The Chief Minister pointed out that Delhi now faces the grim reality of being known as the “rape capital,” “drug capital,” and “gangster capital.” He stressed that the law and order in Delhi falls under the jurisdiction of the central government, making the intervention of Amit Shah crucial in addressing the escalating crime rates.

The letter further highlighted a surge in violent crimes, including extortion by gangs, shootings, kidnappings, and drug-related offenses. Kejriwal noted that drug-related crimes in Delhi have risen by a staggering 350% since 2019. He also expressed concerns over the rising number of threats, mentioning that over 300 schools, hospitals, and other public institutions in Delhi have received bomb threats in the last six months, creating a climate of fear.

“I am deeply concerned about the safety of the people of Delhi. I am regularly meeting with citizens, and there is widespread anxiety over the increasing crime rates. Mothers and daughters are asking if Delhi can ever be safe again,” Kejriwal wrote in his letter.

The Chief Minister also mentioned that, on average, three women are victims of rape every day in Delhi, and businessmen face extortion calls on a daily basis. He emphasized that the situation is dire, and that the people of Delhi deserve better law enforcement and security.

Kejriwal’s plea to Amit Shah is clear: immediate action is needed to restore law and order in the capital. He urged Shah to rise above political differences and work together to address the grave concerns raised by the citizens. He requested a meeting with the Home Minister to present the complete details and explore solutions for improving the security situation.

The letter concludes with a call for urgent intervention to rectify the law and order situation, which has become a serious cause of concern for Delhiites.
