Begusarai, Bihar: In a tragic incident, a doctor and a compounder lost their lives under suspicious circumstances in Begusarai district. Allegations suggest that the deaths were caused by the consumption of spurious liquor, leading to an uproar in the area. The incident has once again raised serious questions about the implementation of the liquor prohibition law in Bihar.

Details of the Incident

The deceased have been identified as Dr. C.C. Singh and his compounder, Hare Ram Tanti, both residents of Maida Shahpur in the Cheria Bariarpur police station area. According to reports, Dr. Singh passed away at his residence, while Tanti lost his life after seeking treatment at Dr. Singh’s clinic.

Witnesses claim that Tanti lost his eyesight before his death, a symptom commonly associated with methanol poisoning from spurious liquor. Following the incident, local residents and relatives accused illicit liquor mafias operating in the area of causing the deaths.

Post-Mortem and Investigation

The post-mortem of Hare Ram Tanti was conducted under the supervision of a medical team from the health department. However, Dr. Singh’s body was not subjected to a post-mortem. Civil Surgeon Dr. Pramod Kumar Singh stated that the exact cause of death will be determined only after the post-mortem report is received.

SP Manish Kumar confirmed that two deaths had occurred under suspicious circumstances. He revealed that the police are investigating the case and have visited the families of the deceased for further inquiries.

Alcohol Consumption Suspected

Family members of Hare Ram Tanti admitted that he was a habitual drinker, adding weight to the speculation that the deaths were caused by the consumption of spurious liquor. Tanti’s health reportedly deteriorated rapidly after consuming alcohol, leading to his death despite treatment.

Public Outcry and Police Inaction

The incident has sparked outrage among local residents, who accused the police of inaction and negligence. They alleged that despite Bihar’s strict prohibition laws, illicit liquor continues to be manufactured and sold openly in the region. The locals demanded strict action against the liquor mafias responsible for the tragedy.

Background on Bihar’s Prohibition Law

Bihar has been a dry state since 2016, with the sale and consumption of alcohol banned under stringent laws. However, incidents involving spurious liquor and subsequent deaths have been reported repeatedly, highlighting lapses in the enforcement of the prohibition.

Authorities Respond

SP Manish Kumar assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway. The police are examining all angles, including the involvement of liquor mafias. He added that necessary steps will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.

Conclusion

The tragic deaths of Dr. C.C. Singh and Hare Ram Tanti have once again exposed the perils of illicit liquor in Bihar, despite the state’s prohibition laws. As the authorities probe the incident, residents await justice and stricter enforcement to prevent such tragedies in the future.
