Bihar News: Following the bridge collapse, there were allegations that inferior materials were utilized during construction, which is why the bridge failed to open.
Bihar has seen yet another bridge disaster. Even before it was officially opened, the bridge crumbled and plummeted into the river. The incident occurred in Sikti block of Araria district. Here, a bridge built at a cost of crores on the Padariya Ghat of the Bakra River suddenly collapsed into the river. Following the occurrence, there was a commotion in the community. It is said that this bridge was built when the approach to the previous bridge was removed. People claim that poor materials were utilized in the bridge’s construction, which caused it to collapse before it was inaugurated. People believe the department recently began the process of rebuilding the bridge’s approach path. However, before that, this accident occurred.
The construction of the 182-meter-long bridge started in 2021.
The bridge collapsed before it was inaugurated in Araria’s Sikti neighborhood. The Pradhan Mantri Gramin Sadak Nirman Yojana funded the construction of this bridge, which cost Rs 7.79 crore. The construction of this 182-meter-long bridge began in 2021. The initial cost was Rs 7 crore 80 lakh, but the cost climbed to Rs 12 crore due to changes in the river’s channel and the approach road. It was completed in June 2023. There was no traffic on the bridge due to a lack of access roads on either side. The residents have complained about anomalies in the overall building. According to the residents, fissures in the bridge’s slab had been visible for the past two days. The bridge unexpectedly collapsed on Tuesday. This bridge was built by contractor Sirajur Rahman of adjacent district Kishanganj for the Central Government’s Rural Works Department.
This claim was made by an MLA and an MP.
Meanwhile, following the bridge accident, MP Pradeep Kumar Singh and Sikti BJP MLA Vijay Kumar Mandal blamed contractor and departmental carelessness. The MP and MLA discussed inconsistencies in the piling of the bridge and accused the contractor of doing subpar work at night. The MP stated that a high-level team should investigate the situation and take appropriate action against the responsible contractor and departmental authorities.
