The decision about Muslim reservation made by the Calcutta High Court was seen as a slap on the face of the Mamata government by former chief minister of Madhya Pradesh, Shivraj Singh Chauhan. In addition, he claimed that the government thought it was superior to the Constitution.

Shivraj Singh Chauhan, the former chief minister of Madhya Pradesh, has praised the Calcutta High Court’s decision granting Muslims in West Bengal OBC reservation. Also, he described it as a hit in the face to the West Bengal administration led by Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress. He stated that Mamata ji has been exposed as someone who just participates in vote-bank politics. Mamata Banerjee, eager to placate, is stating that she does not accept the High Court’s ruling rather than acknowledging it. This choice will not be carried out. Is the Constitution not being insulted by this? What is Mamata Banerjee’s self-perception?

Speaking with reporters in Delhi, Shivraj asked whether Mamata was above the law. No constitutional officer since independence has ever said that they were against the court’s ruling. This is the height of chaos and haughtiness. The Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee, is not entitled to continue in office for even a single day if she grants quotas based on a person’s religion. The Constitution lacks any provisions for religious reservations. Is it acceptable to take an OBC reservation and distribute it to members of a specific religion in order to keep your support base intact?

The Mamata Banerjee government’s proposal to provide Muslims in West Bengal reservation rights by classifying them as OBC was invalidated by the Calcutta High Court. The reservation procedure was ruled illegal by the High Court. It added that it is an insult to the Muslim community as a whole to include 77 categories of Muslims in OBC. The possibility that Muslims have been used as a political tool remains active in the court’s mind. The Muslims of Bengal are viewing this judgment as a major blow. On this subject, the BJP has simultaneously assailed Mamata and the Congress, which has made the same choices in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. About five lakh persons will be affected by the court’s ruling.
