New guidelines for obtaining a driving license in India have been issued by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. Find out what will change as of June 1.

The latest rules for acquiring a driving license in India have been released by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. The primary changes to the rules as of June 1st are:
1. Candidates may choose to take the driving exam at the location that is nearest to them, in contrast to following the current process and taking the exam at the right Regional Transport Offices (RTOs). Institutions in the private sector that will be permitted to provide driving exams will receive certificates from the government.
2. Driving while in receipt of an invalid license now carries a harsher punishment. It entails a fine of between Rs. 1,000 and Rs. 2,000. Moreover, in the event that an underage person is discovered operating a car. Therefore, his parents can be held accountable. In addition, a hefty fine of Rs 25,000 would be charged. There will also be a cancellation of the vehicle’s registration certificate.
3. there are now fewer documents one needs in order to get a driver’s license. This implies that applicants will know before of time what exact documents are needed for the kind of license they want to get from the Ministry.
4. The ministry is investigating ways to slowly phase out 9,000 outmoded government cars and raise the emission requirements of other vehicles in an effort to make India’s roads greener.
5. The procedure for filing an application for a driver’s license will not change. By going to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways’ official website, https://parivahan.gov.in/, applicants can submit their applications online. They can, however, also go to the relevant RTO to manually submit the application.
