An order has been issued to close all schools in Noida and Greater Noida up to class eight beginning on May 20, 2024, until further orders due to the heat wave. All primary through eighth-grade schools are to close as of today, May 20, under instructions from the Basic Education Department.
The temperature started to rise earlier on Sunday morning. The temperature had climbed to 38 degrees Celsius by about eleven o’clock. It was partly cloudy during the day, but the heat did not let up. About 3:30 pm, the temperature hit 45 degrees. Even at night, there was no relief from the heat. On Sunday, the lowest temperature ever recorded was 28.7 degrees Celsius.
The heat wave will continue during the day until May 23, which is two days after the red alert, according to the Meteorological Department. The city’s temperature could rise even more in a situation like this. The dry winds emanating from Rajasthan are expected to decrease from May 24. There’s a possibility that the heat will subside after this.
In order to avoid a heatwave, the Meteorological Department has issued a red alert that is valid until May 21. The last six days have seen roughly five-degree spike in temperature, according to departmental data. It is notable as Noida recorded a maximum temperature of 41.3 degrees Celsius on May 14.
