According to airline sources, the fired personnel failed to report for duty and acted inappropriately. It is worth noting that numerous Air India Express flights had to be canceled due to a big number of personnel going on leave. As a result, flight travelers had numerous difficulties. Employees took mass leave after charges of mismanagement.
In protest of alleged mismanagement, the cabin staff of Tata Group-owned Air India Express went on mass leave on Wednesday. More than 200 employees taking leave at the same time had a significant impact on the company’s flying operations, requiring the cancellation of more than 100 flights. As a result, flight travelers had numerous difficulties. According to media accounts, around 15,000 passengers were affected by the near-halting of Air India Express operations on Tuesday. Air India Express operates the most flights to the Gulf countries. Many flights from India to Gulf countries were cancelled as a result of a cabin crew shortage. Air India Express operates over 360 flights every day, both locally and abroad.
The government seeks a report.
In light of the huge number of flight cancellations and concerns encountered by customers, the Civil Aviation Ministry requested a report from Air India Express on Wednesday and directed the airline to swiftly rectify the issues with the staff. Air India Express flights were disrupted at many airports, including Kochi, Calicut, Delhi, and Bengaluru. At Delhi International Airport alone, 14 flights were canceled until 4 p.m. on Wednesday. The reduction in Air India Express flights may continue till May 13.
What is the purpose for the employees’ protest ?
The Air India Express Employees Union, which represents the airline’s cabin crew, accused the corporation of mismanagement and uneven treatment. Employees are protesting against Air India Express, Air India Express Connect, and Vistara Airlines. Earlier, Vistara Airlines pilots went on mass leave, disrupting more than 150 flights. The Air India Express Employees Union (AIXEU) wrote a letter to Tata Group Chairman N Chandrasekaran in April. This letter discussed a lack of equality in the treatment of employees.
The letter stated that “external candidates are being appointed to vacant positions in internal jobs, while qualified internal (in-house) candidates are being sidelined.” Several allowances, including HRA, that were part of pay prior to the merger have been deleted. According to the letter, despite steady revenues, staff compensation were reduced. The letter stated, “There is a gross lack of equality in the treatment of employees.” Salary, experience, and qualifications are disregarded.
