Due to accusations of sexual abuse made by multiple women against MP Prajwal Revanna, the JD(S) suspended him and served him with a show-cause notice.

Karnataka’s Janata Dal (Secular) suspended Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna on Tuesday and gave him a show-cause notice in response to sexual assault claims made against him by many women. The Janata Dal (Secular) agreed to suspend Prajwal Revanna, the grandson of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, at its core committee meeting.

On April 28, Prajwal Revanna was charged with alleged sexual harassment after his former servant filed a complaint. The case was filed under sections 354A, 354D, 506, and 509 of the IPC on charges of sexual harassment, intimidation, and demeaning a woman’s dignity.

HD Kumaraswamy, the state JD(S) president, and other members of the core committee attended the meeting.

Prajwal Revanna, the nephew of former Karnataka chief minister HD Kumaraswamy, would not be allowed to return to work till the SIT investigation is over.

According to the lawsuit, the woman stated that both Prajwal Revanna and his father HD Revanna sexually attacked her. The complainant further stated that while Revanna’s wife was not home, he touched her improperly and sexually assaulted her.

The SIT has begun looking into the matter; it is led by IPS officer Vijay Kumar Singh and includes IPS officers Seema Latkar and DG CID Suman D. Pennekar.

In Hassan, Karnataka, the Bharatiya Janata Party-JD(S) coalition fielded Prajwal Revanna as its candidate for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, which concluded on April 26.

In the meantime, the Karnataka director general of police has been directed to provide a thorough report on the matter within three days by the National Commission for Women, which has taken suo motu cognizance in the Prajwal Revanna case.
