A boat capsized on the Jhelum River in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday morning, and several individuals are believed to be missing.
Muzaffar Zargar, medical superintendent of Shri Maharaja Hari Singh Hospital, said four persons perished when a boat capsized in the River Jhelum in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday morning. While three people were rescued and treated, dozens others remain missing.
It is unclear how many individuals were on the boat. However, residents reported that the boat was carrying several schoolchildren.
The rescue effort is being conducted by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF). According to PTI, senior police and civil administration officials, such as the Deputy Commissioner of Srinagar, Senior Superintendent of Police Srinagar, Inspector General of Police, Divisional Commissioner of Kashmir, and Senior Superintendent of Police, are also on the scene overseeing the rescue efforts.
Because of the recent days of nonstop rain, the river’s flow was quite high when the incident occurred. The Srinagar Meteorological Centre had forecast light to moderate rain, light snow in the upper regions, and thunder in most of the Kashmir Division for Monday night.
Manoj Sinha, the lieutenant governor of Jammu and Kashmir, meanwhile, expressed sorrow over the lives lost in the terrible event.
“I am deeply saddened by the loss of lives in a boat accident in Srinagar.” My thoughts and prayers are with the grieving families, and I ask the Almighty to grant them the strength to bear this enormous loss. “A team from the SDRF, the Army, and other agencies is conducting relief and rescue operations,” he stated in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Sinha also stated that he is continually monitoring the situation and that the administration is offering all possible assistance to the grieving family.
