The eighth list of 14 candidates for the Lok Sabha elections was made public by the Congress on Wednesday.
The Congress party has refused Supriya Shrinate a Lok Sabha ticket from Uttar Pradesh’s Maharajganj constituency, which she unsuccessfully ran for in the 2019 general election. In its eighth list of 14 candidates for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, the Congress chose Virendra Chaudhary over Supriya Shrinate from Maharajganj.
Supriya Shrinate, the Congress spokesperson, is embroiled in a scandal over a now-deleted social media tweet on Kangana Ranaut, the BJP’s Mandi candidate.
Shrinate sparked a social media firestorm on Monday with an alleged disparaging post on actor-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut. The now-deleted post, which included a disparaging commentary, criticized Ranaut’s Mandi candidate for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Shrinate stated that “many people” have access to her Facebook and Instagram accounts, and that someone from there created the “extremely inappropriate” post, which has now been deleted.
“As soon as I found out, I erased that post. Everyone who knows me understands that I will never make personal or indecent comments about any woman. “I wanted to know how this happened,” she explained.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Election Commission issued a show-cause notice to Supriya Shrinate for making abusive remarks about Kangana Ranaut. The poll panel determined that Shrinate’s words violated the Model Code of Conduct and its advice to political parties to maintain dignity while electioneering.
The Commission judged the comments to be ‘undignified and in ill taste’ and has requested her response by 5 p.m. on March 29, 2024.
Rao Yadvendra Singh will run against Union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia in Guna, Madhya Pradesh, according to the Congress party’s eighth list of candidates for the Lok Sabha, which was unveiled on Wednesday. In Vidisha, it also fielded Pratap Bhanu Sharma against Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the former chief minister of Madhya Pradesh. From Damoh, Tarvar Singh Lodhi has received a nomination.
The Congress has announced candidates for four seats in Uttar Pradesh and Telangana, as well as three in Madhya Pradesh and Jharkhand. With this, the party’s total number of declared candidates now stands at 208.
