Bhumi Pednekar commented that she enjoyed Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal, but she is not a fan of obviously male flicks.
Animal, directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga and starring Ranbir Kapoor, has sparked much debate since its premiere on December 1. Bhumi Pednekar, who recently released Bhakshak on Netflix, told The Lallantop in Hindi, “I watched Animal… I don’t watch hyper-masculine flicks. Aur abhi se nahi, bohat pehle se hain. I don’t like seeing hyper-masculine films in Hollywood. I prefer rom-coms. This is not a new trend; I have never loved such flicks in the past. Even in Hollywood, action pictures… I enjoy seeing rom-coms as a genre.
The actor also defended the filmmaker’s decision to make their picture, saying, “I truly feel that a film is a filmmaker’s self-expression, and that is very important. The challenge for audiences is to learn from their own self-expression.
The film Animal, featuring Ranbir Kapoor, has received controversy for its portrayal of misogyny and toxic masculinity, despite its box office success. The film is around a man who returns from the United States following an assassination attempt on his emotionally distant father. In order to gain his approval, the man goes on a rampage to exact revenge on those who attempted to kill his father.
Ranbir makes an appearance in the film alongside Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol, Rashmika Mandanna, Triptii Dimri, Suresh Oberoi, Shakti Kapoor, and Prem Chopra. The film was released on Netflix on January 26.
