The 66th Annual Grammy Awards 2024 will be hosted in Los Angeles.
Indian artists Shankar Mahadevan and Zakir Hussain’s fusion ensemble ‘Shakti’ won the Grammy for ‘Best Global Music Album’ on Monday. The award was for their current album, ‘This Moment’.
In a photo posted by the Grammys on their official X (previously known as Twitter) account, Mahadevan and another band member, Ganesh Rajagopalan, are shown accepting the prize on stage. “Congrats Best Global Music Album winner – ‘This Moment’ Shakti. #GRAMMYs,” the Grammy said in a post.
In an acceptance speech, Mahadevan said, “Thank you boys. Thank you God, family, friends, and India. India, we are proud of you…Last but not the least, I would like to dedicate this award to my wife whom every note of my music is dedicated to.” The musician’s speech evoked a loud cheer from the crowd.
John McLaughlin (guitar synth), Zakir Hussain (tabla), Shankar Mahadevan (singer), V Selvaganesh (percussionist), and Ganesh Rajagopalan (violinist) composed the eight tracks on the album ‘This Moment’, which was published on June 30 of last year.
