PM Modi will open India’s longest sea bridge on January 12, and the Mumbai Police have issued a list of rules for using it.

The Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL) will be inaugurated on January 12 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, according to the Maharashtra Chief Minister’s Office. The MTHL, commonly known as the Atal Setu, is India’s longest sea bridge.

The Atal Setu is named after former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and runs from Sewri in Mumbai to Nhava Sheva in Uran taluka in Raigad district. According to PTI, the total cost of the project was Rs. 18,000 crore.

However, the Mumbai Police published a few guidelines regarding MTHL travel on Wednesday. The Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL) would have a maximum speed limit of 100 kmph for four-wheelers, while motorbikes, autorickshaws, and tractors will be prohibited.

Vehicles such as cars, taxis, light motor vehicles, minibuses, and two-axle buses would be limited to 100 kilometers per hour, according to officials. Furthermore, the ascent and descent from the bridge will be restricted to 40 kmph.

According to a Mumbai Police spokesman, the purpose for setting a speed limit on India’s longest sea bridge is to reduce “danger, obstructions, and inconvenience to the public.” Motorcycles, mopeds, auto rickshaws, tractors, and slow-moving vehicles will not be permitted on the bridge.

He stated that multi-axle heavy vehicles, trucks, and buses bound for Mumbai will be denied access to the Eastern Freeway. These trucks must use the Mumbai Port-Sewri Exit (Exit 1C) and the MBPT Road at ‘Gadi Adda’ for further transit.

Everything you need to know about the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link.

The Mumbai Trans Harbour Link, popularly known as the Atal Setu, is India’s longest sea bridge. The Atal Setu is a 22-kilometer-long highway with six lanes that connects Sewri on the island to Nhava-Sheva on the mainland.4

The MTHL was built with 177,903 metric tonnes of steel and 504,253 metric tonnes of cement. At the moment, the bridge has only two entrance points to Navi Mumbai, one from the Airoli-Mulund connector and the other from the Vashi connector.

Travel will be greatly streamlined as a result of this bridge, and automobiles will be able to cover the distance between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai in just 20 minutes, which would previously take 2 hours.
