In June 2019, the film Kabir Singh, starring Shahid Kapoor as Kabir and Kiara Advani as Preeti, was released. The romance drama is a replica of Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Telugu film Arjun Reddy. The film provoked a heated controversy on social media about toxic masculinity and misogyny, but it went on to become the second-highest-grossing Bollywood film of 2019.
Sandeep Reddy Vanga recently disclosed that Ranveer Singh, not Shahid Kapoor, was his initial pick for the role.
When Ranveer Singh turned down Kabir Singh,
Vanga revealed that Ranveer Singh turned down the picture because it was too dark for him at the time. He also discussed his reservations about doing a Hindi adaptation of Arjun Reddy. “I was getting calls from Mumbai all the time asking me to do the remake.” It was first pitched to Ranveer Singh. I really wanted to do it with him. But, in the end, he opted not to do it because it was too gloomy for him at the moment,” the filmmaker explained in a recent interview with iDream Media.
Kabir Singh, produced by T-Series Films and Cine 1 Studios, tells the story of a surgeon who destroys his life after his love marries someone else. Mrunal Thakur, Adil Hussain, Nikita Dutta, and others also appear in the film.
Speaking of Shahid Kapoor, he made his big screen debut in Raj & DK’s Farzi, opposite Vijay Sethupathi. He will next be seen in Deva, which is set to begin production in October 2024. Meanwhile, Sandeep Reddy Vanga is preparing for the release of Animal, his second Hindi film starring Ranbir Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna, Bobby Deol, and Tripti Dimri.
