According to Sonia Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi introduced a constitutional amendment to determine the representation of women in local body elections.
During the Lok Sabha debate on the bill that would create a 33% quota for women in the Lok Sabha and state legislative assemblies, Congress leader Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday declared her support for the measure.
The Congress parliamentary party chief declared, “I stand in support of Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam 2023 on behalf of Indian National Congress.”
“In the Rajya Sabha, it lost by 7 votes. Later, the Rajya Sabha passed it under the direction of PM PV Narasimha Rao and the Congress Government. We now have 15 lakh elected women leaders in local bodies all throughout the country. Only a portion of Rajiv Gandhi’s vision has come true. When this Bill is approved, it would be finished, she informed the Lok Sabha.
“The patience of the Indian woman is like the ocean. Gandhi demanded that the bill be put into effect right away, saying that the woman had “worked like a river for the betterment of everyone.”
“This Bill is supported by the Congress party. While we are pleased that the Bill was passed, we are also worried. I’d want to pose a query. For the past 13 years, Indian women have been waiting for their political obligations. They are currently being told to wait a few more years. the number of years? Is this behavior appropriate around Indian women?” she questioned.
Gandhi continued, “The INC demands that the Bill be implemented immediately, but Caste census should also be conducted and arrangements for reservation of SC, ST, and OBC women should be made.”
Sonia Gandhi declared that any delay in putting the women’s reservation law into effect would be a grave disservice to Indian women.
The ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam 2023’, which was presented on Tuesday at the new Parliament building, is currently being discussed in the Lok Sabha.
