13 September 2023 ( New Delhi ) : Following a battle between security personnel and militants in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Wednesday, an Indian Army Colonel, a Major, and a Deputy Superintendent of Police were killed.
Earlier in the day, a police officer informed news agency PTI that an encounter had broken out between security personnel and militants hiding in the Kokernag area of Anantnag district.
“Colonel Manpreet Singh, Major Ashish, and Humayun Bhat, deputy superintendent of Jammu and Kashmir Police, were critically injured in the gunfight and died later,” Army authorities said.Army leaders led the troops from the front after they had gone to look for terrorists in the region based on particular intelligence. DGP Dilbag Singh of J&K, ADGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar, and Army men hurried to the encounter site to oversee the operation.
According to sources, the squad of security agents was pursuing terrorists in a hideout. As they ascended a building, 2-3 militants hiding within began fire. The Colonel died on the scene, and the other two officials were shot. They were taken to a hospital in Srinagar, where they died as a result of their injuries.
“An Indian Army Colonel commanding a Rashtriya Rifles Unit and a Major were killed in an encounter with terrorists in Kashmir in Anantnag.” “The officer was commanding the 19th Railway Regiment,” Indian Army sources claimed.
A Jammu and Kashmir Police officer was also killed in the clash. “Army officers were leading troops from the front after they went to search for terrorists in the area based on specific intelligence,” they continued.
Meanwhile, two militants were killed by security forces during an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri’s Narla district.
A terrorist was killed in a confrontation with security personnel in Jammu & Kashmir’s Reasi district on September 4. A police official was also injured in the exchange of fire. Acting on a tip-off, security forces initiated the operation when two terrorists from the Lashkar-e-Taiba group were said to be hiding.
